The LEC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Manne Madness Tournament consisted of four double-elimination regional tournaments, each featuring lectures from eight distinct professors, for a total of thirty-two tournament competitors. The top two professors from each region advanced to the Elite Eight National Championship in Miami.
The Chicago Regional Tournament took place on Sunday, August 4 – Friday, August 9, 2024 at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile. The eight different competitors from eight different schools gave a combined twenty-six lectures.
Professors M. Todd Henderson (University of Chicago Law School) and Bryan C. McCannon (Illinois Wesleyan University) advanced to December’s championship double-elimination final round in Miami.

M. Todd Henderson
Michael J. Marks Professor of Law, University of Chicago Law School
M. Todd Henderson is the Michael J. Marks Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School. Professor Henderson’s research interests include corporations, securities regulation, and law and economics. He has taught classes ranging from Banking Regulation to Torts to American Indian Law.
Professor Henderson received an engineering degree cum laude from Princeton University in 1993. He worked for several years designing and building dams in California before matriculating at the Law School. While at the Law School, Henderson was an editor of the Law Review and captained the Law School’s all-University champion intramural football team. He graduated magna cum laude in 1998 and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Following law school, Professor Henderson served as clerk to the Hon. Dennis Jacobs of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He then practiced appellate litigation at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, DC, and was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company in Boston where he specialized in counseling telecommunications and high-tech clients on business and regulatory strategy.

Bryan McCannon
Dean of the School of Business and Economics and Robert S. Eckley Endowed Professor of Economics, Illinois Wesleyan University
Bryan McCannon holds the Robert S. Eckley Endowed Chair in Economics and serves as the Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Illinois Wesleyan University. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1998 and his PhD in Economics from Pennsylvania State University in 2003.
Dr. McCannon’s research focus is primarily in Law and Economics as he uses advanced causal inference econometric techniques to study legal institutions. His work has explored the decision making of prosecutors and judges in the criminal justice system, plea bargaining, and conflict resolution via arbitration. He also conducts research in behavioral economics. Previously, Dr. McCannon was a professor at Wake Forest University, the chair of the Department of Finance at Saint Bonaventure University, and director of the Center for Free Enterprise while a faculty member at West Virginia University. Dr. McCannon has mentored undergraduate, MBA, and PhD students for over 20 years and serves on the executive board of multiple professional, academic societies.
