Economics: From Classroom to Courtroom
This free-standing course combined elements of the Judicial Education Program’s newly developed Introduction to Economics for Judges and its Case Analysis Seminar. Program days alternated between lecture and seminar formats. On lecture days, a basic economic concept was introduced and its applications to law and public policy presented. On seminar days, participants broke out into smaller groups to thoroughly discuss cases considering the application of economic concepts introduced the previous day. Each case discussion will begin with a participant overview of an assigned, reported case followed by an in-depth discussion of the economic concepts and their application to the case. These sessions were moderated by law and economics scholars with the expectation that all attendees were fully prepared to participate in and contribute to the discussion.
