Case Analysis Seminar for Judges

Event Details

  • Date:
  • Venue: Antonin Scalia Law School
  • Division: The Judicial Education Program

The Case Analysis Seminar for Judges introduces participants to economic concepts through a discussion-based examination of litigated cases drawn from a variety of legal fields.

How does economic analysis have a practical impact on judicial reasoning? This seminar relies on real case examples as its primary teaching tools — hence the name “Case Analysis Seminar.”

Led by law and economics scholars, participants will brief, present, and engage in substantive discussion of the economic principles applied to the legal issues that shaped cases. Some cases will be analyzed because they use economic tools effectively, others because they misunderstand or misapply economics, and still others because they fail to consider the economic or unintended consequences of their analyses or conclusions. We analyze cases to see good, and bad, economic analysis in real world judicial action.
