Antonin Scalia Law School Originalism Summit:
The Originalism Summit brought together a small and select group of judges, appellate lawyers, and academics who were committed to originalism (and thus steeped in originalist concepts and methods) for an advanced-level discussion about its role in appellate litigation. There were no course materials or any need to prepare for the summit. On Saturday, programming consisted of a series of short presentations about cases before the Supreme Court this Term. Each presentation was followed by a roundtable discussion among all of the invitees about the role originalism is (or should be playing) in these cases. On Saturday evening, a leading academic delivered remarks on a trending topic in originalism and how that trend is impacting appellate practice. On Sunday morning, attendees participated in a roundtable discussion on that topic and the role of originalist scholarship in appellate litigation more broadly.
